Definition

Hyperfixation is the word ADHD and autism communities use for the dive: a game, an artist, a work problem, a crush. It is not the same as a hobby. There is urgency, lost hours, irritation when someone interrupts. It can be productive and it can be a trap. Special interest, in autistic vocabulary, is a close relative with a different cut.

Origin

English hyperfixation, neurodivergence speech on the 2010s–2020s internet.

From Tumblr and Reddit to ADHD TikTok. The word left the community's informal clinic.
