What does FYP mean?
For You Page: TikTok’s main recommended feed — and the feed the creator begs for in a caption.
Definition
FYP is the For You page. The app picks what shows; the Following tab is the list of people you follow. Writing FYP or #fyp on a video is a request: put me on that grid. Three letters in a caption do not sign a views contract. The letters leaked to Reels, Shorts and any screen that pretends to know you.
Origin
English For You Page, from the app UI. ByteDance launched Douyin in China in September 2016, with a recommendation feed instead of a chronological queue. International TikTok arrived in September 2017; on 2 August 2018 it merged with Musical.ly and For You became the default tab when you open the app.
History
From 2016 to 2018 the name belonged mostly to Douyin/TikTok users. In 2019–20 #fyp became a caption strategy. Later the acronym left the app: people who never open TikTok still say FYP for the feed the algorithm builds. Reels and Shorts copied the logic; the three-letter nickname stuck.
How it emerged
The algorithm needed a street name that fit the screen. Following was already the list of people you follow; a nickname was missing for the grid the app chooses. Three letters did it — and became a distribution ask in the same breath.
