What does Truck-kun mean?
The personified truck that hits the protagonist and opens the isekai.
Definition
Truck-kun is the extra the fandom promoted to an entity: a vehicle, the -kun honorific, the convenient death that sends the hero to another world. In the 2010s isekai boom the hit-by-truck scene became cliché; in 2017 a fan compiled causes of death and the truck sat high on the list. Konosuba jokes with a slow tractor. Mushoku Tensei and others use the asphalt for real. The name circulates across titles; it does not belong to one brand.
Origin
The name joins fandom English and the Japanese -kun honorific. On 14 April 2015, on Reddit, poloport used Truck-kun in a RE: Marina post. Death by truck was already an isekai cliché; the nickname stuck as a recurring killer.
History
In 2017 a fan compiled isekai causes of death (list updated in 2018); traffic and trucks sat high. Anime News Network covered the trope on 12 January 2018. Konosuba jokes with a slow tractor; Mushoku Tensei uses the asphalt for real.
How it emerged
The 2010s isekai boom needed a harmless villain for the death that opens the other world. The truck got -kun and became an entity.
