What does Isekai mean?

The other-world genre: the protagonist falls (or transmigrates) into a place with game rules.

  • Circulation: high
  • Source language: ja
  • Translatable: yes

Definition

Isekai (異世界) is a portal, a reincarnation, sometimes a truck. The 2010s light-novel factory made the mould visible: status window, harem, polite revenge. There are thin works and there is the isekai trash the fandom itself names. Truck-kun is the meme of the vehicle that opens the portal. Iyashikei is almost the tempo antidote.

Origin

Japanese 異世界, literature and anime, boom in the 2010s.

History

From portal classics to a Crunchyroll algorithm full of clones.

How it emerged

Fandom needed a shelf name for the RPG other-world.
