Definition

Love bombing names too much intensity, too soon. It is not the same as mutual passion: the volume occupies the space of evaluation. In abuse literature it appears as an idealisation phase. In everyday speech it is sometimes over-applied — an intense weekend is not automatically a bomb. The lexicon asks for the pattern: excess, haste, then the pullback.

Origin

English from cult literature and later abusive-relationship writing, from the 1970s on.

History

From sect vocabulary to relationship TikTok. The military metaphor stuck.

How it emerged

A name was missing for affection that works as occupation.
