What does Delulu mean?

Someone holding an unlikely plot — the idol will notice, the crush is mutual, the job lands — as a joke, and sometimes as a mantra.

Definition

Delulu shortens delusional. In K-pop fandom it names someone treating the idol as a reciprocal plot: they will notice, they will date, that fancam glance proves the ship. The tone is mockery, including of the self: the fantasy is admitted and kept.

On TikTok the nickname left the forum and split. One use is the crush who does not reply and the novel the person writes anyway. The other is the motto delulu is the solulu: believing too hard becomes a method, kin to the law of attraction. Solulu and trululu follow the same mould (solution, truth). Cambridge in 2025 logged the adjective: believing things that are not real or true, usually by choice.

Origin

English delusional, with the -lu-lu repeated. K-pop fandom circuit. Know Your Meme points to the OneHallyu forum on 6 April 2014 (“their shippers are pretty much delulu”). Urban Dictionary, 19 June 2014: a fan who believes they will end up with the idol.

History

K-pop Twitter and Tumblr through the rest of the 2010s. In November 2022 TikTok applies it to a real-life crush. In 2023 delulu is the solulu explodes. In August 2025 the Cambridge Dictionary adds delulu (with skibidi and tradwife). In March 2025 Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese used “delulu with no solulu” in parliament — a late echo, not the origin.

How it emerged

There needed to be a cute nickname for the illusion someone admits and still holds.

Usage examples

  • I'm delulu about this pairing.

Questions

What does delulu mean?

A clipped delusional: holding an unlikely fantasy — idol, crush, promotion — usually as a joke. The English form carries the fandom and TikTok scene.

What is delulu is the solulu?

A 2023 motto: the illusion becomes a method. Solulu calques solution on the same mould as delulu; trululu calques truth. People who say it treat delulu as audacious confidence — kin to the law of attraction — not only as fan mockery.

Is delulu an insult?

It can be. Among friends it is a confession (“I'm delulu about this ship”). Aimed at someone outside the group it sounds like scorn: you are writing a film they did not sign.

Is it the same as stan?

A stan is an intense, sometimes obsessive, fan of someone. Delulu is the unlikely plot that fan — or any crush — keeps alive. You can stan without being delulu, and you can be delulu about a situationship that is not an idol.

Is delulu a diagnosis?

It is fandom and feed slang, not the name of a disorder. People who say “I'm delulu” usually know the fantasy is a fantasy. Clinical delusion is a different conversation, with a professional; the TikTok word does not close a diagnosis.
