What does Delulu mean?
Delusional, as a joke: hanging on to a story that almost certainly will not happen.
Definition
Delulu clips delusional down to the K-pop fan who treats a look on stage as a message — who thinks the idol will actually date them. It is usually a joke, including about yourself: I know I'm kidding myself and I'm doing it anyway.
TikTok took the same self-own out of the fandom and parked it on a real-life crush, the one who does not reply while you write the story anyway. The motto delulu is the solulu pushes it further: being delusional on purpose, as if believing hard enough will get you the job. That is the law of attraction under another name. Solulu plays on solution; trululu plays on truth. In 2025 the Cambridge Dictionary logged it as believing things that are not real or true, usually because you choose to.
Origin
The form comes from English delusional, with a -lu-lu on the end that K-pop fandom already treated as a toy. Know Your Meme finds the OneHallyu forum on 6 April 2014 (“their shippers are pretty much delulu”). On 19 June 2014 Urban Dictionary logged the fan who believes they will end up with the idol.
History
The word stayed on K-pop Twitter and Tumblr through the rest of the 2010s, still stuck to the ship. In November 2022 TikTok started using it for a real-life crush; in 2023 delulu is the solulu took off. In March 2025 Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese said “delulu with no solulu” in parliament — a late use, not where it started. On 18 August 2025 the Cambridge Dictionary added delulu (with skibidi and tradwife).
How it emerged
Delusional sat too heavy for shipper mockery. A light nickname was missing for “I know I'm kidding myself and I'm doing it anyway”: the -lu-lu from OneHallyu in 2014 fit a tweet and, years later, the 2023 motto.
