Definition

Sigma appears in internet masculinity pyramids (alpha, beta, sigma) as the wolf who does not need the group. In practice it is an aesthetic: a soundtrack, a sidelong look, a refusal of small talk. The term was born on forums and is now irony as much as a manual. Almost nobody calls themselves sigma without a wink.

Origin

Pseudo-hierarchies of masculinity on 2010s Anglophone forums, then Reels and TikTok.

History

The grindset meme and Bateman-style edits glued the word to a soundtrack.

How it emerged

A Greek letter became a shortcut for a theatrical refusal of other people's approval.
